ABOUT THE TRIBE
Tuto Tribe is a samba rock band (5-piece at its core) based in Southampton in the UK. Brazilian extrovert, Tuto, and his tribe of musicians perform joyful, fun-fuelled and interactive shows with their modern, bright Brazilian sound with catchy, sing-along hooks and rhythms influenced by samba, rock, Jamaican music and jazz. We describe our music as the virtual offspring of Samba Rock pioneer Jorge Ben, The Doors and Manu Chao, with songs written about love, life, travel and world citizenship.
Formed in early 2022 around Tuto's original songs and his close musical relationships, Tuto Tribe has played at several festivals (including Victorious and Tropical Pressure) and regularly plays in different cities across southern England. The multi-national Tuto Tribe comprises Tuto (Brazil, lead vocals and guitar), Cristiano (Brazil, trumpet), Blair (Canada, tenor sax), Mike (Cyprus, bass), Jura (Brazil, percussion) and the heart-beat of the band, Herman (Brazil, drums).
As quoted by a tribe fan, 'Tuto Tribe makes you feel like you're on a holiday you never realised you were going on'. Come and see, dance, singalong, and make up your own mind!

SHOW: Lighthouse Poole, Live and Unheard
The multi-cultural Tuto Tribe brought the party to the room with a demand for all to stand and dance from the very first note of “Lets Samba Rock It!” We were soon all involved as tambourines and other percussion were handed out for us to all join in with and Tuto had us all singing along. If I had been feeling a little tired (been a long week!) I was certainly energised when they drew it to a close an hour later! Of Brazilian and Italian heritage, it was clear to hear both influences in the fusion of music, amongst many others! Having grown up involved with music in Brazil, Tuto left his home and via many cities in Europe, settled in Southampton. Starting as a solo artist, he soon started collecting musicians and the Tribe was born. The hugely talented band moved around the room and got right up close with the audience, with sax solos from the stairs, Cyprus Mike on bass handing out all manner of percussion and at one point Richard on Sax leading a conga with most of the audience! We were treated to an advanced performance of their new single, due to be released on November 29th at Harmony House in Southampton. Whilst the final mash up was not strictly an “original” the delivery of it certainly was and the room was dancing. Energy was high and fun was had.

SHOW: Whiskey Blue, "Frevo Paulista" Release
This seven-piece band is made up of talents from Brazil, Cyprus, Canada and England. I recognized Mike Nikolau on bass, so new the rhythm section was certain to pass muster. To add to this were two percussionists, Marcio and Mark. Together, the three sounded like they’d played together for years, perhaps they have. The three saxophones were played by Rich, David and Blair. The three played as one, but picking up solos that suited their individual style perfectly. The wireless mic on Rich’s sax allowed him to lead the congas and to get the crowd fully involved with the Latin atmosphere. Smiles all round!
The front man of the Tribe, Tuto, hales from Brazil, but has had had plenty of stops on the way to Southampton, living and playing his unique style of Samba Rock in a host of European countries before putting some loose roots down in our city.
His vocal style enhanced most of the songs from the first set by being sung in his mother tongue. However, this didn’t stop him from adding some covers from such diverse bands as Pink Floyd and The Doors, neither of which would usually fit in a Samba Rock set! Tuto made it fit seamlessly. His guitar playing was also superb. Whether it was the lead instrument in a song or backing up the trio (“Tribe”) of saxophones, it was all at the perfect level.
As the set went on, the audience became more and more involved. The usual English reserve slowly melted away, and the dance floor filled with Latin spirit. I strongly urge you to get along to a night with them. Set your Latin spirit free!
